750 school transport routes

Over 42,000 students - 21,630 boys and 20,650 girls - started primary and secondary school yesterday, the Education Ministry said.

About 20,000 students attend the 77 primary schools - 10,720 boys and 9,350 girls - and a total of 17,000 students attend the 34 secondary schools - 7,290 go to Junior Lyceums and 9,740 to secondary schools.

On October 1, about 5,000 children start kindergarten, 1,660 for the first time.

This scholastic year, there are 3,120 new primary school students, 1,360 new junior lyceum students and 1,980 new secondary school students.

Among the 3,800 teachers, 370 are in kindergartens, 1,020 in primary schools and 2,410 in secondary schools.

Over 18,000 students were driven along 750 routes on public school transport yesterday morning.
