Nurses working with the special education department have been directed by the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses to report to work at the schools in which they worked before summer, and to ignore any new postings.

The union said in a statement that the Education Division did not appreciate how important it was for students to be looked after by the same person, and for there to be continuity.

It said the directive comes into force today and the action could be stepped up unless the division changed its approach.
