September 21, apart from being Malta's Independence Day, is also the International Underwater and Beach Clean-up Day.

And thousands of scuba divers around the world will help to make this year's cleanup the largest effort yet.

Each year PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Project AWARE (Aquatic World Awareness, Responsibility and Education) sponsors the underwater clean-up and has encouraged its divers to participate in river, lake and beach cleanups in their local area.

As a PADI Dive Centre, Luna Diving Centre will be supporting PADI and Project AWARE's initiative for cleaner seas, focusing on Mellieha Bay, from 9 a.m.

With more than 90,000 members interacting with more than a million dive students a year, PADI and its charity Project AWARE, can make a contribution to environmental efforts.

The volunteers will be recording and photographing the rubbish they collect and this information will be used to produce a worldwide, annual report of the results.

Divers and non-divers, are invited to participate in the local event. For further information contact Natalino Caruana Debrincat on tel. 21521645.
