Three days to Assisi for Life Cycle cyclists

The Life Cycle Challenge cyclists have arrived in Pontecagnano Faiano (Regione Campania), describing the leg from Sapri as "one of the toughest rides so far", with just three days to go till they reach their destination, Assisi.

The cyclists are collecting money for the renal unit at St Luke's Hospital.

The cyclists laboured up hill climbs topping the 750m mark, with gradients of up to eight per cent.

"The going was tough to say the least. The leading vehicle - a Land Rover carrying three people - could only make a maximum speed of 40km/hr in several sections of the tightly convoluted course," the cyclists said in their email update of the gruelling trip.

The intricate backup vehicle system was planned by Francis Bonnici. The system permits flexibility on the road with the cyclists strung out for over two miles being constantly backed-up by three vehicles equipped with essentials such as food, water, first aid kits and a camera crew.
