With reference to the letter about the resurfacing of Klarissi Street (August 26), the council would like to point out that unforeseen problems arose after the beginning of works.

For obvious reasons when a street is resurfaced all services are changed and due to the Water Services Corporation's disputes, works were held up for approximately two months, after which a considerable amount of time was taken to catch up with the backlog of accumulated works by the same corporation.

Drainage seeping into a private garage was another problem which obviously needed attention and which held up works for a further few days.

Moreover the council has been doing its utmost for works to be completed as soon as possible and with the minimal inconvenience to the public. However, I personally have been on site twice in the presence of the architect in charge, where we spoke and explained to the residents the difficulties which were holding up the works.

Finally, may I point out that Klarissi Street posed a few problems with regard to special machinery which needed to be used due to the road being so steep.
