MUS training programmes
Everybody is becoming aware that if our companies are to achieve world class performance and compete successfully in this time of rapid change, we must invest more in upgrading the organisation's greatest asset, its people. Investing in people is seen as a vital core in any organisational strategy.
This can be seen from the overwhelming response to all training programmes currently being organised by Malta University Services in collaboration with various University departments and other local and overseas organisations including MTA, EURO Projex, BSI and Epsim Ltd. The following are examples of some of the training programmes scheduled to start in October 2002.
A course for first line supervisors
This new programme covers several aspects of great relevance to every supervisor, for example, what the supervisor's job really entails, organising and delegating, directing and co-ordinating one's department, communicating new ideas and information, motivating and leading work teams, managing one's time, tackling costs and raising efficiency, problem solving, handling complaints and grievances in a tactful manner and maintaining good discipline.
This 60-hour course highlights important changes occurring in today's highly competitive environment and combines lectures, readings, group discussions, case studies and experiential exercises.
Towards the end of the course participants will prepare an assignment relating the course to their work experience and environment.
The lecturers are drawn from within the Department of Management, FEMA, University of Malta. This course starts on October 22.
Effective Leadership
The core objective of these interactive seminars centres around the main question of how to become an effective leader. The programme aimed at group and section leaders will highlight that despite several attempts by various theoreticians, there is no one perfect model of what constitutes a 'perfect leader'.
Participants will discover for themselves the various aspects of situational leadership and the traits that are attributed to this style of management. This evening course starts on October 8.
Marketing management programme
The Marketing Management programme has the marketing practitioner in mind. Taught by lecturers, executives and specialised consultants, whose expertise provides the participants with a wealth of academic and practical knowledge.
The programme will prove most useful to marketing managers who wish to improve their understanding of marketing as a major element in the management decision-making process; public sector officials whose duties require an understanding of marketing mechanisms; and educators who wish to increase their marketing proficiency. The course starts on October 15.
Effective Project Management
MUS Ltd is repeating their successful and well-attended three-day course in Effective Project Management aimed at project managers working in corporate planning, systems development, IT or new product development, R&D and financial institutions.
In three intensive days, the course provides delegates with proven tools and techniques to meet project objectives on time and within budget. The method of delivery is through lecture and discussion in plenary sessions, exercises and case-studies, which provide the participants with the opportunity to practise the techniques and share experiences with other course participants.
Much of the work is carried out in small groups and whenever possible, participants' real situations are used as the basis for problem solving sessions.
The programme is conducted by Dr Rodney Turner. The course will be held between November 18 and 20.
