Following the national teams' commitments in Sicily, the Malta Basketball Association (MBA) 2002-2003 season starts on Sunday when the Super Cup finals are played at the Ta' Qali Pavilion.

Both matches will be contested by last year's finalists. Champions Depiro Still take on runners-up Hibs Go Mobile in the women's competition at 2.30 p.m. while Pembroke meet Siggiewi in the men's final which starts at 4.15 p.m.

Between these games, MBA deputy president Ray Mercieca will present the 2001-02 Player of the Year awards to Hibs player Lucienne Bezzina and Michael Naudi of Pembroke.

Meanwhile, the association recently held a seminar for referees and table officials at Ta' Qali. The seminar was opened by MBA secretary Frank Camilleri who stressed the importance of the role played by the officials in the local game. He said the number of newcomers was very satisfactory and the MBA was sure that all officials were doing their utmost for the best of the game.

FIBA referees' instructor Leonard Falzon also addressed the assembly and conducted the Cooper Test for the referees. The seminar was concluded by the presentation of the certificates.
