For the fifth consecutive year, Classic Jewellers will be backing the Miss Maltese Islands beauty contest and loaning the winner of the 22 finalists a Lm150,000 Miluna crown to wear on the big night.

The 18-carat white gold crown, which has a 150-carat aquamarine stone together with cultured pearls and precious stones, was yesterday evening eyed by the 22 girls at the retail outlet in Valletta.

The crown and a sceptre have been donated to Classic Jewellers by Worldgem, which is the main sponsor for Miss Italy, Miss France and Miss Spain.

The contest, which is being held at the New Dolmen Hotel in Bugibba on September 21, is being organised by Sue Rossi and Claudia Calleja, with Ray Ashley designing the contestants' evening wear.

The winner of the contest will go on to represent Malta in the Miss World event that will be held in Nigeria on November 30.
