The power supply in various localities was disrupted for a short time on Monday after a fault developed in a boiler at the Marsa power station.

Enemalta said in a statement yesterday that the cause was a faulty electronic card that controls the boiler feed water control system.

The fault occurred at 4.05 p.m. and hit the Freeport, parts of Hal-Far, Birzebbuga, Marsaxlokk, Delimara, Zurrieq, Qrendi, Mqabba, Safi, Kirkop, Birkirkara, San Gwann industrial estate, Mriehel industrial estate, Qormi, Attard, Balzan, Lija, Sta Venera, Iklin, Zebbug Swatar, Msida, Ta' Xbiex, Gzira, San Gwann, Sliema and parts of St Julian's.

The gas turbines at Marsa and Delimara were started up and the power was restored to the Freeport in less than 30 minutes, and to the rest of the localities by 5.43 p.m.

The boiler was back in service on Monday evening.
