Dismissed

I only came to see the feature "Half a century ago" for July 30, 1952 and to the selection of a new Curator of Fine Arts, on my return from abroad recently.

In that news item it is stated that "Chev. V. Bonello... for known reasons, resigned" from his post as Curator of Fine Arts (before WWII).

This is incorrect. Vincenzo Bonello, my father, founder and for many years director of the museum, was dismissed by the colonial authorities without ever having been given a reason or an opportunity to state his case.

His formal request for an official inquiry, as was his legal entitlement in terms of the colonial regulations, was also turned down. No explanation was given.
