A Ta' Giorni man was yesterday charged with defaming and threatening a police inspector.

Victor Testa, 39, pleaded not guilty to threatening and defaming Inspector Mario Tonna on Wednesday at about 5.50 p.m.

He was also charged with misusing telephone equipment and relapsing.

Testa was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm700.

Police Inspector Martin Sammut prosecuted.

Dr Jason Azzopardi appeared for the defendant while Dr Gavin Gulia represented the inspector.
