Day after day I have read of the constant carnage of wildlife in Malta, by the so-called 'hunters'. It seems to me that they want their islands to stay the way they have for too many years, totally barren of all forms of wildlife.

I have been coming to the Maltese islands for nearly 30 years and have brought with me many of my friends who want to visit again, having enjoyed their time in Malta and Gozo.

Like me, some of them are also reading The Times daily via the internet.

They are also disgusted when they read about the killing of birds.

Rather than hunters, these people ought to be called "assassins of nature".
