The Kalkara council is calling for an inquiry into an incident last June in which oil from the shipyard's tanks at Rinella ended up in the bay.

The council said it had so far only received an acknowledgment to a letter it had sent to the Economic Services Ministry about the incident.

It also accused the 'yard's chairman of ignoring the council's request.

The council said it was concerned that a substantial amount of oil had ended up on the seabed.

It warned that if it continued to be ignored or supplied with misleading information, it would take the case further.
