The crash scene in Rue D`Argens, Gzira, where Paul Cassar lost his life

Paul Cassar, 50, of Sliema died after he was involved in a traffic accident while driving his motorcycle in Rue D'Argens, Gzira, yesterday afternoon.

The police said the incident occurred when Cassar lost control of his Kawazaki 750 motorcycle while driving in the direction of Msida. Cassar died on the spot. The motorcycle skidded on the road and stopped some 25 metres further on from where Cassar lay on the road.

The police said investigations were being carried out into the circumstances of the fatal accident.

Police sources said they were trying to establish whether it was a hit and run accident or whether the motorcyclist lost control and fell to the ground.

The busy Rue D'Argens was closed for over an hour as Magistrate Miriam Hayman with a team of court experts held an inquiry.

Architect Richard Aquilina, clinical forensic physician Mario Scerri and mechanical expert Joe Zammit are helping in the inquiry.

The motorcycle was taken away to police headquarters for further investigations.

The spot of the accident was sealed off by the police to keep away a large number of people who gathered in the area after they heard news of the accident.
