The hunters' and trappers' federation has always criticised foreigners for daring to comment on the killing and trapping of birds in our islands. The implication was that only Maltese people had any right to debate the issue.
You now quote Lino Farrugia from the Hunters and Trappers Association stating that they will "ensure that hunting and trapping would not be touched by any Maltese, let alone by the EU" (August 22).
Is Mr Farrugia saying that now even fellow Maltese citizens cannot speak out on this matter? Is he preparing his members to defy any law that parliament may see fit to pass to amend the law on hunting and trapping?
Our political parties should call Mr Farrugia's bluff by reminding him and his band of bird killers that hunting and trapping are not exempt from democratic control.
