So, according to the latest news reports going round reputable news sources on the 'net (like www.wired.com), the RIAA is now going to "access computers without the owner's consent for the sake of protecting [its] assets". Just like the Americans to protect an old fashioned way of life with more legalese instead of with practical solutions.
InformationWave Technologies, an American ISP, has announced that it believes "this policy puts its customers at risk of unintentional damage, corporate espionage, and invasion of privacy to say the least" and has deployed a honeynet to identify illegal access to allegedly copyrighted data and will block those computers.
A brave stand - and the right one to take. I have not heard of any other ISP taking a stand against this preposterous claim by the RIAA; but I am interested in knowing whether any of the local ISPs are preparing themselves for an onslaught from the RIAA or not.
Will I, as a user of a Maltese ISP, be at risk from whatever tomfoolery the RIAA decides to get up to? Will my PC get hacked by people claiming to be the RIAA?
