A wartime beach post built by the British in the early stages of the war to guard Anchor Bay against invasion will today be handed over by the government to Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna for restoration and management as a cultural attraction.

The post is situated adjacent to the entrance of Popeye Village.

FWA executive director Mario Farrugia said the structure had rare wall paintings on its internal walls and various original features

Some Lm15,000 is needed for its restoration.

In all, some 270 defence posts were built in Malta, forming three successive lines to resist invasion. Fewer than 100 survive today.
