The General Workers Union yesterday called on the Civil Court to stop the Veterinary Services Department from appointing any person who did not have a Vet Aid certificate by last January 11 to the post of assistant veterinary support officer.
The union filed an application for a warrant of prohibitory injunction against the Veterinary Services Department and the Management and Personnel Office within the civil service.
It claimed the authorities had violated an agreement on the classification and assimilation of industrial and supervisory grades and the procedures for the filling of the post of assistant veterinary support officer.
This meant they were prejudicing the rights of those workers who had had the necessary qualifications prior to January 11, for they were being deprived of being appointed to this post.
Dr Aron Mifsud Bonnici signed the application.
