The Armed Forces were yesterday afternoon involved in the rescue of a sailor who was injured while working on board a tanker about 59 nautical miles east of Malta.

An AFM Alouette rescue helicopter captained by Anthony Zammit was sent to the Maltese-registered tanker Talava to airlift the injured person to St Luke's Hospital.

The two-hour rescue operation was coordinated by the Rescue Coordination Centre of Luqa Barracks.
