Courses in English for academic purposes are organised by the Foundation for International Studies of the University, intended primarily for students who are applying or have been accepted for a course at the University of Malta.
Students at other universities or non-university applicants are also welcome. These courses are meant for participants who have at least an elementary level of English.
These courses are suitable for participants who wish to use the English language in realistic situations; develop confidence in using English; and improve their overall ability to communicate in English.
The programme concentrates on grammar practice activities in a communicate method; vocabulary building; pronunciation work; and the key skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
The tutors are all very well qualified, and are full-time members of the University lecturing staff.
Participants may request to be prepared for the Cambridge exams (First Certificate in English, Certificate in Advanced English, Certificate of Proficiency in English) or the IELTS exams (International English Language Testing Systems). It is possible to sit for these tests in Malta after the course. Two such courses were successfully organised this summer, which were fully subscribed.
