Good news for FOI trenching contractors

The F.O.I. approached the Ministry for Justice and Local Government about the high permit fees being charged by local councils to FOI members in trench excavation contracting. These contractors mainly work in public areas on behalf of public corporations.

The F.O.I. approached the Ministry for Justice and Local Government about the high permit fees being charged by local councils to FOI members in trench excavation contracting.

These contractors mainly work in public areas on behalf of public corporations. As a result of FOI representations, we are pleased to announce that the Minister for Justice and Local Councils has taken immediate action as promised to the Federation.

A Legal Notice has amended Local Council Fees Regulations, giving effect to drastic reductions of the rates charged for permits covering road works. The difference in the level of fees came about after the transfer of responsibilities from the Police to local councils.

The FOI thanks the Ministry for Justice and Local Government for understanding the situation and taking the necessary steps to ensure that this transfer of responsibilities would not adversely affect the private sector operators. Members wishing to obtain a copy of this legal notice can contact the FOI Secretariat on tel: 2123-4428 or 2122-2074.
