AFM rescue diver

The Armed Forces of Malta went to the rescue of a diver who encountered difficulties while diving off Wied iz-Zurrieq yesterday afternoon.

The diver was winched onto an AFM helicopter and taken to St Luke's Hospital for treatment.

The AFM said their operations centre at Luqa received a distress call at about 1.50 p.m. on a Maltese diver in difficulty at sea about 50 metres from the coast.

An army Alouette helicopter was despatched to the area and within 20 minutes rescuers on board the helicopter lifted the diver from the sea, the AFM said.
