The next Rapid Chess Tournament, on Sunday, September 8, will be played at Farsons Brewery, Mriehel.
The event is open to all chess players. Usually, organisers get an entry list of around 30 players and that includes competitors from all categories including newcomers.
There will be prizes for the three best placed and there will also be a cumulative Grand Prix for the player who obtains the highest score in the whole series this year. At the moment, the leader is G. Borg who was also last year's Grand Prix winner. Play starts at 9.30 a.m. Each player will be allowed 15 minutes to finish his game.
One other chess activity next month is the Malta Junior Chess Championship between September 9 and 13 while the Toledo Championship Finals get underway on September 16. This year, Malta will field a six-man team in the FIDE Olympiad in Bled, Yugoslavia in October.
The federation is currently holding chess clinics on Sundays at the Chess Rooms, 87, St Vincent Street, Sliema.
