First Division side Xghajra Tornadoes are on the verge of snapping up the services of Bulgarian custodian Stoian Simeonov.

The Tornadoes, now under the guidance of former Floriana and Sliema Wanderers midfielder J.J. Aquilina, seem to have been impressed with the form of the former Rabat goalkeeper after watching him during a 4-1 friendly defeat to Floriana.

Negotiations between the two sides have yet to be finalised but sources close to the club said that Aquilina is eager to acquire the services of the Bulgarian custodian.

Another foreign player was expected at the club, Nigerian forward Endo, who was due to start a trial with the Tornadoes. However, Endo has yet to arrive in Malta thus prompting Xghajra to increase their interest in Simeonov.

If an agreement between the two parties is reached, Simeonov will be Xghajra's first signing for the forthcoming season.

Aquilina, who holds a UEFA A Diploma in coaching, is also looking to bolster his attacking department as they bid to challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

Xghajra Tornadoes, who last season just missed out on a place in the top flight after finishing third behind Marsaxlokk and Mosta, start their First Division campaign on September 8. They travel to the sister island to face Gozo FC.
