A team of Norwegian and Maltese shipyard managers are meeting this week to discuss work on the construction of a hull for the Norwegian shipyard Havard by Malta Shipbuilding, 'yard chairman John Cassar White said yesterday.
The project management team is discussing a contract worth more than Lm1.5 million in labour, and work involving an average of 100 to 120 workers. Work is planned to start next month.
The hull is to be finished within seven months from the time the shipbuilding 'yard obtains the designs and the 1,100 tonnes of steel that will be needed.
It will then be shipped to Norway to be outfitted and used as a platform supply vessel.
The 'yard newsletter said that the contract could be extended to include parts of the outfitting and urged workers to look on the existing contract as just the first step towards a potentially more lucrative project.
