The 47-year-old woman who found herself in difficulties, while swimming at Ghajn Tuffieha on Wednesday, has died, the police said.

Michelina Fairs, a Maltese woman married to a Briton and who lived in Mosta, had gone swimming with her 16-year-old son at around 3.30 p.m. but found it hard to get back to shore because of the waves.

Her son managed to drag her to the beach after she lost consciousness and she was taken to hospital by an Armed Forces helicopter.
