An English woman is on the danger list after finding herself in difficulty while swimming in rough seas at Ghajn Tuffieha, police said. She was pulled to shore by her 16-year-old son.
Last night, the woman, 47, who lives in Mosta, was in intensive care at St Luke's Hospital.
Police said she was swimming with her son at about 3.30 p.m. when the waves made it difficult for her to get back to shore. Losing strength, she swallowed a lot of water and then lost consciousness.
With great difficulty, her son managed to keep her afloat and drag her back to the beach, police said.
An Armed Forces helicopter took the woman to hospital.
Duty magistrate Noel Cuschieri ordered an inquiry, and appointed experts to assist.
Police are investigating.
