Nature Trust (Malta) has urged the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to curb attempts by the Portomaso Hilton developers to sanction 25 illegally built apartments.

Nature Trust believes that MEPA can only garner the support of the people by exercising its authority uniformly, even on large projects such as the Hilton, and properly enforcing all existing legislation in the shortest possible time.

Nature Trust said the Hilton project had already wrought considerable damage to the marine environment in the area, especially to vulnerable Posidonia meadows, through the turbidity generated and the effluents from the yacht marina.
