Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said he was expecting the police to arraign more people in connection with the bribery charges against former chief justice Noel Arrigo and judge Patrick Vella.

Replying to a question during a news conference, Dr Borg yesterday said he was expecting more arraignments within days.

Dr Borg said the police had continued to investigate the case and it now had enough evidence to arraign more people. However, he would not say how many.

Over the past days the police have interrogated several people related to the case.

Earlier this month, former chief justice Arrigo and Judge Vella were arraigned and charged with accepting bribes and with revealing official secrets in relation to a sentence handed down by the Court of Criminal Appeal against Mario Camilleri on July 5.

The charges were aggravated by the fact that the accused were public officers duty bound to prevent the crime.

They are pleading not guilty.

Following the presentation of an impeachment motion by both the prime minister and the leader of the opposition, the two judges resigned.
