Five injured in traffic accidents, one in danger
Five people were injured, one of them critically, in four traffic accidents in Malta and Gozo yesterday and on Tuesday.
The most serious casualty was a 15-year-old youth from Gharb, who is fighting for his life after he was involved in a motorcycle accident in San Lawrenz Road, San Lawrenz, on Tuesday afternoon.
The police said the young man was riding a Suzuki 100 motorcycle in the direction of Victoria when, for some reason, he lost control, skidded and after hitting a pavement crashed into a tree.
He was rushed to Gozo General Hospital where he was found to be in a critical condition. The youth was later transferred to St Luke's Hospital by helicopter. The motorcycle was extensively damaged.
The magistrate on duty appointed a team of experts to help in an inquiry.
The police are investigating.
The police also said a Briton was seriously injured when he was hit by a Transit van driven by a man from Ghaxaq, while he was crossing Turisti Street in Qawra on Tuesday.
However, the police said, the man is not in danger.
A man and his son were slightly injured when the horse driven sulky they were riding was hit by a Toyota Hilux in Leonardu Street, Victoria, on Tuesday evening. The Toyota was being driven by a 20-year-old woman.
On impact, the horse bolted. It was caught later in Il-Vitorja Street without causing any damage.
In another incident which occurred early yesterday morning in Valley Road, Birkirkara, the driver of a Hillman Avenger was slightly injured after he lost control of his car, which hit the pavement and overturned. At the time he was driving in the direction of Birkirkara.
