AS Libertas athletes in European meetings

Charles Cilia and Gerald Grech will represent their club AS Libertas in international athletic track meetings in Belgium and Switzerland later on this month.

The two runners are coming from a successful season with Cilia placing third in the Palermo International Half-Marathon, second in the Graz Half-Marathon and first in the Malta international half-marathon, which secured his selection for the World Half-Marathon Championships in Brussels.

Grech, on the other hand, had an excellent track season, going on to improve all his personal best times on the longer distances. One of the highlights of his performances on the road was a second placing behind Cilia in the Fleur-de-Lys 5km race.

Grech and Cilia, who train under the charge of Ivan Rozhnov, also form part of the national athletics team.

In Belgium and Switzerland, Grech will race in the 800m and 1,500m races and Cilia in the 1,500m and 3,000m. Both are aiming to secure a GSSE 2003 berth by attaining the MQSs already established.

Cilia and Grech are sponsored by Malta International Airport and Reebok. They also received strong support from AS Libertas and the Malta Amateur Athletic Association.
