A Gzira man was yesterday charged with perjury, stealing a car and general misbehaviour offences.
Stephen Spiteri, 21, pleaded not guilty to stealing Mario Vella's Ford Fiesta from Mellieha on Saturday between 12.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. and handling stolen property.
He was also charged with causing damage at Tropical Bar in St Julian's on Saturday at 4 a.m. to the detriment of Allan Xuereb, threatening Maria Dolores Grima at the St Julian's police station on Sunday and Monday and lying on oath before a magistrate.
Spiteri was also charged with destroying evidence, threatening Inspector Robert Gregory at the St Julian's police station on Monday, refusing to give police his details and hindering the police or a court expert in their duties.
He was denied bail.
Police Inspector Robert Gregory prosecuted.
Dr Ian Farrugia appeared for Spiteri while Dr José Herrera appeared in parte civile.
