The recent intake of shipyard apprentices has made history, as it included, for the first time ever, a woman apprentice - Elaine Saliba of Luqa will be receiving training in electronic servicing.

"The shipyards have always employed a number of women, but they have always been in clerical or secretarial positions. This is the first time that a woman will be employed on the industrial side," the drydocks council said yesterday.
