Labour spokesman on infrastructure Charles Buhagiar has warned contractors to be wary of future road contracts awarded by the government because all the money allocated for the ministry's budget had been spent.
In a statement, Mr Buhagiar said that once elected a Labour government would not honour any payments for work done on roads that had not been budgeted for.
When contacted, Transport Minister Censu Galea wondered if the Labour Party expected the government to halt all the road works until the general elections were announced.
Mr Galea also insisted that so far as he knew, "we are still within our budget" for the roadworks.
