I have just read the article (July 23) with regard to the points system for traffic offences.
It is not the first time that readers wrote about being booked without doing the contravention. I have just experienced the same thing. I was booked for a traffic offence in Gozo which I am sure I was not in the place and did not violate the traffic law.
Hence, when doing my calculation it was going to be more expensive for me to appear before the tribunal together with the witness and have to take one day vacation leave rather than paying the Lm10 fine.
I opted for the latter, hence paying a fine for the simple reason that it was cheaper.
Should we now start accumulating points for these fines? It is good to know that when I called the wardens' office in Gozo, I was informed that the local warden is not obliged to stop the person driving the car.
Local wardens were, if I am not mistaken, friends of citizens who should educate people rather than be tax collectors.
I think something should be done with regards to this before the new law is in force.
