Maltapost is continuing to recognise the General Workers' Union as the main representative of its employees, the union said.
The union said the company's position was reaffirmed at a meeting between a public services section delegation from the union, and Maltapost's CEO Robert Lake last Friday.
During the meeting, the company's business plan, which identifies new activities and alternative sources of income, was discussed.
The union said Maltapost was committed to improving efficiency, which could lead to an increase in employment.
The company would continue to be committed to intensive employee training, the GWU added.
In the meantime, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin is continuing to insist on the necessary guarantees for the future of Maltapost employees and for information on the security of their employment and work prospects to avoid speculation and concern.
UHM general secretary Gejtu Vella and section secretary Joe Morana have met Mr Lake, the union said.
While saying it agreed on the need for more efforts to generate more work and increase the company's revenue, the union expressed reservations on the fact that some of the changes being carried out would not result in the improvement of the postal services - which made it even harder for the workers to accept them.
