The Ministry of Health has just put on an internal computer system the first chapter of the volume of medicines needed for specific cases and what forms patients needed to complete for their medicines.

The ministry said that details about the medicines and the forms needed would eventually be available on the internet. At the moment they are just available on the internal computer system.

The first chapter deals with heart diseases, the most common ailment in the country and for which the ministry spends the biggest chunk of the funds for the supply of medicines.

Following the update of this chapter, eight medicines can now be obtained without the need for a permit. This improvement will affect about 8,000 patients, the ministry said.

A number of medicines that at present must be collected from the outpatients department at St Luke's Hospital will shortly be available from health centres, the ministry said.
