Trading in corporate bonds during the week was quite active with total market value amounting to Lm522,100. The highest value was reached in the eight per cent BOV USD bonds in which a nominal value of $270,000 changed hands in nine deals struck between $110 and $110.15, amounting to a value of Lm125,351.
Yesterday, the Malta Stock Exchange announced that the recently issued Lm7 million 6.7 per cent Tumas Investments plc bonds 2010-2012 have been admitted to its official list. Trading in these bonds is expected to start on Monday.
Meanwhile other trading in corporate bonds consisted of:
¤ Two deals struck in the 6.15 per cent Bank of Valletta 2010, in which a nominal value of Lm9,500 changed hands at Lm103;
¤ Thirteen deals struck in the 6.5 per cent Corinthia Finance 2010 (EUR), in which a nominal value of e190,300 changed hands between e100 and e99.49;
¤ One deal struck in the 6.7 per cent Corinthia Finance 2009, in which a nominal value of Lm500 changed hands at Lm102.50;
¤ Two deals struck in the 6.75 per cent Corinthia Finance 2012, in which a nominal value of Lm3,100 changed hands at Lm103;
¤ Five deals struck in the 6.7 per cent Eden Finance 2010, in which a nominal value of Lm15,000 changed hands between Lm99.49 and Lm99.50;
¤ Five deals struck in the 6.5 per cent Gasan Finance 2006/9, in which a nominal value of Lm8,900 changed hands between Lm100 and Lm 100.01;
¤ Five deals struck in the 7.25 per cent HSBC Loan Stock 2005, in which a nominal value of Lm4,400 changed hands between Lm104 and Lm104.30;
¤ Two deals struck in the Malta Government Privatisation bonds, in which a nominal value of Lm8,000 changed hands at Lm101;
¤ Four deals struck in the 6.7 per cent Mizzi Finance 2009/12, in which a nominal value of Lm9,000 changed hands at Lm103; and
¤ Two deals struck in the eight per cent Bay Street Finance 2012, in which a nominal value of Lm3,400 changed hands between Lm99.99 and Lm100.
Trading in Bank of Valletta shares started the week at Lm2.73 at which price 3,100 shares changed hands in the seven deals struck on Monday. No trading took place in these shares on Tuesday and on Wednesday, trading opened at Lm2.72 and lost a further two cents during the course of the session to close at Lm2.70 on a turnover of 2,800 shares. Thursday's session saw two deals being concluded for 536 shares which brought the price down by a further five cents to close Lm2.65. The week ended at Lm2.64 for BOV shares when yesterday, 3,400 shares changed hands over seven deals struck between Lm2.65 and Lm2.64. At the end of the session, best unsatisfied bids and offers were made up of 1,200 shares at Lm2.50 and 33 shares at Lm2.64 respectively.
A total of 30,352 HSBC shares changed over the past week. These shares were transacted over 30 deals struck at prices ranging between Lm3.77 and Lm3.99. HSBC was also the highest climber this week with an increase of 4.775 per cent over the week. Monday's trading took the price up from an open of Lm3.77 to a close of Lm3.88. The price continued up on Tuesday when 10,430 shares changed hands at prices between Lm3.92 and Lm3.98, Tuesday's closing price.
The nine deals struck on Wednesday saw the price vary between Lm3.96 and Lm3.99 at which price HSBC ended Wednesday's session. Thursday's trading brought the closing price down to Lm3.95 when one deal for 750 shares was concluded. This price was also the closing price for the week when yesterday, 8,172 shares changed hands between Lm3.91 and Lm3.95. Following yesterday's session, best unsatisfied bids of 1,000 shares at Lm3.90 stood against best unsatisfied offers of 1,680 shares at Lm3.96.
Maltacom witnessed the highest equity turnover for the week when a total of 43,686 shares changed hands in the 28 deals struck this week. The price here varied from a weekly low of Lm1.11 to a weekly high of Lm1.15. Trading on Monday consisted of six deals for a total of 8,907 shares, struck between Lm1.11 and Lm1.15. Tuesday's session saw two deals being concluded at Lm1.11, while on Wednesday, a total of 15 deals for 30,769 shares where struck at the price of Lm1.14, up 3c on the previous close. No Maltacom shares were transacted on Thursday but yesterday's deals took the price up to close 1c higher at Lm1.15. At the end of the session yesterday, best unsatisfied bids were made up of 3,500 shares at Lm 1.143 while best offers stood at Lm1.15 and consisted of 5,750 shares.
The other equities which saw trading during the week were Lombard Bank shares which saw a total of six deals for 2,100 shares being struck between Lm3.72 and Lm3.79, Middlesea Insurance, where seven deals for 1,470 shares were concluded between Lm 2.14 and Lm2.10, Farsons shares where one deal for 300 shares was struck at Lm0.581 and Datatrak shares where 5,500 shares were transacted in two deals struck between Lm0.47 and Lm0.48.
Total Malta Government Stock turnover over the week amounted to a nominal value of Lm134,200, struck in 29 deals and over 12 different stocks.
The MSE Share Index increased by 30.204 points over the week, equivalent to 1.60 per cent, and now stands at 1,920.652.
