Nature Trust (Malta) and British Divers Marine Life Rescue have organised a marine mammal medic course in Malta for the Marine Rescue Team, a voluntary group which rescues mammals.
The aim of the course was to provide members of the rescue team with detailed information about live and dead strandings of whales and dolphins.
The course was given by Dr James Barnett, a veterinarian with extensive experience in marine mammals.
It was made possible through the collaboration of Forestals, Mellieha Bay Hotel, Sound System Co. Ltd and Watercolours Diving Expeditions.
The rescue team's objective is to try and save as many live dolphins that are stranded along the beaches as possible and to collect all data possible for the study of these animals.
The members of the team are trained on a monthly basis to make sure that they are prepared for any type of stranding that may occur on the islands.
