The new 2002-2003 prospectus of the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) provides both youngsters and adults with a vision for the future through the opportunity to further their studies.

The prospectus includes detailed information on the college, its services and facilities, and information on the full-time courses on offer during the year 2002-2003.

The prospectus includes facts and figures on MCAST, a description of life at college, a description of the campuses and detailed information on the courses offered by the six institutes.

Further information on selection criteria, registration, maintenance grants and the ETC apprenticeship schemes is also included.

The college is offering new courses this year that range from a foundation course in electronics, a foundation certificate in business studies, and a diploma in computer hardware.

Education Minister Louis Galea said that MCAST enrolled its first students in October 2001 fulfilling yet another electoral proposal.

He said that currently over 1,000 new students are studying at the college.

In its first year the college offered 27 full-time courses and also part-time courses. This year the number has risen to 33 full-time courses and another 60 courses will be offered on a part-time basis.

The minister said that during the first year of operation the college has undertaken the necessary measures to develop the students on both an academic and personal level.

Students have access to a wide range of specialist equipment and facilities that will enable them to gain practical experience in their chosen area of study. Students are also encouraged to participate in sports activities.

Minister Galea said that MCAST's aim is to provide people over 16 with opportunities to further their studies and acquire new skills and training that will equip them for the labour market.

To provide retraining opportunities, mature students are encouraged to study at the college on a full-time or a part-time basis.

In October the college is offering a range of part-time courses, particularly for those who are already employed or for those who wish to further their career.

The minister emphasised that the college strives to provide equal opportunities to students and adults and is therefore working very hard through the setting up of the Basic Skills Unit that falls under the services of the Information and Support Centre.

The prospectus is currently being mailed to all students who have completed their secondary education.

The mailed package also includes an application form on which prospective students should indicate their choice of courses.

For further information contact the Information and Support Centre, MCAST, Main Campus, Paola, on tel: 2180-6440 or e-mail: information@mcast.edu.mt.

A separate prospectus for part-time courses will be published in August and will also be available from the Information and Support Centre.

MCAST is to publish the MCAST Gozo Centre Prospectus 2002-2003 soon.
