User instruction manual's language

First of all, I must stress that this is a positively concluded case so I thank Charlene Chetcuti, service manager, Maxi Quartz Ltd, for her co-operation in resolving the matter to the customer's satisfaction as confirmed by the following letter:

Re: Video Recorder purchased from Sound Machine:

Further to my letter dated June 21, I am writing to inform you that I have just received the required manual pertaining to the video recorder (incidentally this arrived the day after I received your acknowledgement to my letter).

I have written to Maxi Quartz Ltd. informing them of this and I am enclosing a copy of the letter for your perusal. Thank you for your help in this matter. (Brigid Galea)

To be fair, I must feature Ms Chetcuti's concluding letter too:

We have received your letter regarding the instructions booklet.

As we have already informed you previously, we had sent the instructions booklet already to the above address. Probably it could have been mislaid in the post and this is why we are sending you another booklet with this letter.

I am featuring this positively concluded case because it happens too often. Indeed this is a very important issue but we do not give it the importance it deserves.

There are suppliers who do not check whether the user manual supplied is in English. The importance of the user's manual is too often undermined and we must take a strong stand on this issue. Products of a technical nature call for proper handling and, in the absence of clear instructions, one can easily damage such products.

What makes it worse however is that in such cases, too often, suppliers are quick to pass the blame on to the consumer. To a certain extent there may be some validity in this because, after all, it is up to us consumers to check these things before buying such items.
