Tom Robson, chief executive officer of HSBC Bank Malta plc, will return to the UK on August 23, the bank said in a statement on Friday.

During the last board meeting, the bank's chairman and directors thanked him for his excellent service during his tenure in Malta and wished him success for the future.

The new CEO is Christopher Hothersall, currently deputy CEO, India, who assumes control from August 23.

The main task of Mr Robson, who has been in Malta for the last three years, was to introduce the HSBC Group's culture and a long list of rules and standards which apply within HSBC worldwide.

"Mr Robson's post in Malta was the last in an outstanding 40-year career with Midland Bank and subsequently HSBC, where he held several very distinguished posts," the bank said.
