MTV is considering holding a "massive" festival in Malta in the near future, MTV Europe's Projects Manager, Macky Drese said, ahead of tonight's MTV Malta Summerdance party at the Westin Dragonara Resort.

Local promoter Darrin Casha said: "With the backing of the Tourism Ministry and sponsors, MTV, in conjunction with Dusk Promotions are willing to organise a massive festival here with top international deejays."

Mr Drese, who was interviewed at Pebbles Lido, Sliema yesterday afternoon, said he was very impressed with Malta as a party venue and said the local dance scene looked "pretty good".

"It's great that young people are controlling the tourism industry when it comes to promoting Malta as a clubbing destination. I believe that if the laws on nightclub licences were a little more lax, Malta would have the potential to become a second Ibiza!

"Since we decided not to focus all our attention on Ibiza and Lisbon this summer, we decided to promote MTV by descending on Malta too.

"Due to our popularity among local viewers, we thought we'd come over and share a night with our fans," said Mr Drese, who handles MTV's European summer events.

Locals attending this evening's event will get a chance to appear on MTV Europe's Dance Floor Chart in the near future.

The event is being organised by Dusk Promotions in conjunction with MTV.

This is the second time Dusk Promotions has worked in conjunction with MTV. Last year saw a massive MTV party at Amazonia, Bugibba, where over 3,000 clubbers gathered. That event was part of the Ibiza tour.

With regards to MTV's filming of locations in Malta, Mr Drese said: "Malta has some great locations for footage and many international deejays have told us that Malta is a beautiful island with a good party crowd."

During this evening's event, international deejays Dr Kucko, Cheeky, San-J and R&B master Tio Salsa will perform along a range of local deejays such as JJoy, Mat Fenech and Ruby among others.

The event will be hosted by MTV's VJ Mimi K.
