Raschid Chouhal will be the first Maltese athlete in action at the Commonwealth Games today as he runs in the 100 metres heats.
Chouhal, 27, holds the national record in the 100 metres with a time of 10.57 seconds which he established last year. He is also the holder of the national record in the 200 metres which stands at 21.41 seconds.
Chouhal will be competing in heat four of the 100 metres which is scheduled for 1.46 p.m. (Malta time).
The athletes scheduled to compete in this heat and their personal best (PB) are the following:
Emedolu Uchenna (Nigeria) PB (Not Available); Joseph Botangdon (Cameroon) PB 10.19; Kareem Streete-Thompson (Cayman Islands) PB 9.96; Robert Nidithware (Vanuatu) PB 10.6; Robert Dallas (New Zealand) PB 10.46; Pierre Browne (Canada) PB 10.13; Thomas Ganda (Sierra Leone) PB (NA).
Some 70 athletes will be competing in the heats. Chouhal will also be competing in the long jump with the aim of improving the national record of 7.65 metres that was recorded just a few days before the team's departure to Manchester.
Meanwhile, William Chetcuti took part in the match badge event of the Double-Trap, which serves as an unofficial warm-up. The young shooter managed an excellent performance, claiming fourth place, just one clay away from third place.
