A Pietà husband and wife were yesterday fined Lm6,000 between them for trying to cash fake chips at the Oracle Casino three years ago.

Raymond Flattley, 48, and his wife Rose, 45, were each fined Lm3,000 for making use of the forged chips at the casino on and before October 11, 1999. The husband, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was also found guilty of relapsing.

On the other hand, the wife pleaded not guilty and argued she had only acted on her husband's instructions.

But Magistrate Abigail Lofaro ruled that Rose Flattley knew that some of the chips were forged.

Police Inspector Jeffrey Azzopardi prosecuted.
