The restoration of the monument to Sir Alexander Ball, at the Lower Barrakka in Valletta, was completed recently at a cost of Lm37,000, Resources and Infrastructure Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said yesterday.

Sir Alexander was the first British governor of Malta.

Visiting the embellishment works being done at the Lower Barrakka, the minister said that the restoration was carried out by staff and students from the Malta Centre for Restoration under the supervision of architects from the MCR and Italian restorers.

The revamping of the monument was carried out on the initiative of the Valletta Rehabilitation Project while funds were provided by the Restoration Unit at the Ministry of Resources and Infrastructure and the Malta Tourism Authority
