Sliema 16

A victory for Sliema Burger King against Marsaxlokk Freeport was a foregone conclusion. The only ponderable was the margin of their success.

It was the last match which had the top four teams facing those who will be forming the Second Division league in the next stage of the competition.

The south seasiders were naturally unable to offer any resistance against the forceful Blues who combined well to break loose time and again, only to fluff some clear chances.

The season's debut for Sliema's coach Sergio Afric on the bench was marked by the Blues' casual display in anticipation of their next duel against Neptunes on Sunday.

Otherwise, the match only attracted statistical interest, with the champions strolling past their opponents, propelled chiefly by chief striker John Soler, scorer of seven goals.

Exiles 14
Valletta 6
(4-2, 1-2, 4-1, 5-1)

Exiles RMF spluttered and puffed until midway through the proceedings when they only kept their noses in front by five goals to four.

A surprisingly lively Valletta, for whom Mauro Camilleri netted a hat-trick, made it even more difficult for the Sliema team by their initial high conversion rate on man-ups.

However, Exiles shed off some signs of casualness in the third part of the game to open a 9-5 gap. By then the City team surrendered the initiative to their opponents.

Jason Vella was an increasing source of worry for Valletta who scored six goals, two more than they had netted in their first five games.

Exiles: D. Camilleri, M. Grima, A. Cachia, D. Pace Lupi (3), T. Sullivan (1), S. Anfuso, A. Sciberras, A. Bruno, S. Balzan, S. Borg (4), J. Vella (4), K. Lanzon (2).
