The Malta Tourism Authority is receiving applications for the registration of holiday premises to be used solely by Maltese holidaymakers.
Application forms may be obtained from the authority's office at Auberge d'Italie, Merchants Street, Valletta.
Applications may also be downloaded from www.maltatourismauthority.com.
A one-time only application fee of Lm1, as well as an annual fee of Lm7.25 to cover the licence and MTA contribution, is due for the registration of any one property.
Persons holding a licence issued in 2001 for properties to be used as holiday furnished premises may, on renewal this year, also use the licensed premises for domestic tourism and, therefore need not apply for this new licence.
Licences issued for domestic tourism do not entitle the holder to rent the property to holders of foreign passports.
Persons operating holiday premises without the appropriate licence may be fined Lm1,000 by the Authority as provided for in Legal Notice 125 of 2002 or be subject to court proceedings and, if found guilty, fined a maximum of Lm10,000 as provided for in the Malta Travel and Tourism Services Act (CAP 409).
Applications for the registration of holiday premises for letting to Maltese nationals will only be accepted up to August 10.
