Cash donations towards the Birzebbuga feast have been stolen from the St Peter band club, police said.

The thief or thieves also made off with alcohol and cigarettes, as well as Lm200 from a lotto booth inside the club.

The police said officers on patrol noticed that the door of the club was open when they passed by at about 4.20 yesterday morning.

The door leading to the lotto booth was found to have been forced open.

Duty magistrate Noel Cuschieri is investigating.
