BEZZINA. On July 18, at her residence in Msida, ESTHER, aged 86, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sons Sonny and George, daughters Esther and Marianne, and their spouses, her brothers Frankie, Harry and Gaetano, her sister Doris, residing in Canada, their spouses, grandchildren, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. for St Gaetan's parish church, Hamrun, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be appreciated.

Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism

Applications are open for the 2002 Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism: excellence in reporting human rights, democracy and development.

This year five prizes, each worth €10,000, will be awarded to one print/online journalist working for the local media in the following regions: the European Union and the accession countries; Asia and the Pacific; Africa; Latin America and the Caribbean; and North Africa and the Middle East.

Articles submitted should focus on human rights and democracy as vital aspects of development and would have been published in the general media between January 1 and December 31, 2001.

Deadline for submission of articles is September 23.

The European Commission has entrusted the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to promote and coordinate the event. An independent jury made up of media, development and human rights specialists will examine the articles submitted and select the winners.

Rural development conference

MPs Dr Francis Agius (PN) and Mr Noel Farrugia (MLP) are attending a conference on rural development entitled "The impact rural development can have on the prosperity of a less favoured region." It is being held in Alpbach, Austria.

The conference was jointly organised by the European Commission and the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management of Austria.

Car donated for lottery

Mizzi Organisation has donated a Citroen Saxo car to be offered as a prize in a lottery as part of the Kerygma marathon. Funds from the annual marathon go to Dar tal-

Mercedes competition winner

Silvio Tabone, winner of a competition held by Kind's Auto Sales Ltd to mark the launch of the new Mercedes E-Class in Malta, has visited the Mercedes factory in Stuttgart.

Mr Tabone had won two flight tickets to Stuttgart and toured the Mercedes Benz factory and museum in Sindelfingen with his brother Joseph.

First Aid Course
